About Drones

The term “drone” usually refers to any unpiloted aircraft. Sometimes referred to as “Unmanned Aerial Vehicles" (UAVs), these crafts can carry out an impressive range of tasks, ranging from military operations to package delivery. Drones can be as large as an aircraft or as small as the palm of your hand.

What Drones are Used For

Drones can be used for filming, aerial photography, filming movies, commericals, or just for Fun! Drones are also used with the military. Military drones are used in situations where manned flight is considered too risky or difficult. They provide troops with a 24-hour "eye in the sky", seven days a week. Each aircraft can stay aloft for up to 17 hours at a time, loitering over an area and sending back real-time imagery of activities on the ground.

Types of Drones

What types of drones are there? The short answer is that it depends on how you look at it. One way to categorize the types of drones on the market is to divide them into those used primarily by commercial drone pilots, who fly for work, and those used primarily by recreational drone pilots, who fly for fun. A second way to look at drone types is to divide them up based on their design. In general, drones fall into two distinct groups when looked at this way. In one group, you have multirotor drones, which are drones that fly using two or more rotors. In the other group, you have fixed-wing drones, which are drones that—you guessed it—have two fixed wings. And finally, a third way to look at the types of drones is to look at drones made for specific types of work scenarios—like the Elios 2, a drone made just for indoor inspections.

How to Fly a Drone

A lot of people think that drones are hard to fly, but the truth is, they're really not. Anyone capable of using an iPhone or Android device is more than capable of flying a drone. Here are some easy steps to keep in mind: Step by step instructions - Time to start your rotors. Read the instructions first. Charge your quadcopter battery. Quadcopter Positioning. Push the quadcopter throttle down. Take off and land. Take off and hold quadcopter position. Rotate the quadcopter.
